Easy to Reach...Hard to Leave!
An Eastern Upper Peninsula vacation paradise just 35 miles East of the "Big Mac" bridge. The Les Cheneaux Island area, with its 36 beautiful Lake Huron Islands, is reached on paved roads which are exceptionally well maintained all year. There is an airport in Hessel and fine marinas in both Cedarville and Hessel. Take I-75 North to Exit 359 To M-134 and travel East to Hessel and Cedarville, the two friendly communities within the islands.
When planning your vacation, Les Cheneaux (Lay-Shen-O) meaning "The Channels", offers a fascinating holiday possibility! Our modern vacation motels and cottages, set along our picturesque island channels and woodlands, are a perfect vantage point from which to stage your excursions. We have conveniently located restaurants, shopping facilities and churches. Our clean, pine-scented air is low in pollen count, too.
SPRING
Don't miss our Spring fishing, perch run, pike, smelt, small-mouth bass, and brook trout. Mushrooms and wild flowers abound.
SUMMER
A natural playground, the crystal-clear waters of the "the channels" offers all-around family fun. The islands offer excellent boating opportunities from cruising to overnight moorings. We have (2) excellent 18 hole golf courses, and fishing including pike, herring and salmon, with the best walleye catches around. The area also offers a Casino, Maritime Museum, Historical Museum, paved bicycle touring lanes. You can experience a truly old-fashioned 4th of July, with festivities all day long, starting with parade and ending with a spectacular fireworks display. During the second weekend in August we have the Annual Antique Boat Show, which is one of the largest in the United States with several hundred boats entered each year. On the same day as the boat show we have an Arts and Crafts Fair along the waterfront in Hessel. The Les Cheneaux area also offers lots of camping opportunities, whether it is on the mainland or on one of the remote islands.
FALL
Stick around for our true colors: the fall color tour. Hunt upland partridge and rabbit; white-tail deer and waterfowl. Be sure to include your fishing gear, the fishing is very good at this time of the year.

WINTER
A wonderland of ice and snow, and we're set for ice shanty fishing, skating and ice boating. Over 100 miles of groomed snowmobile trails connect with the entire U.P. trail system. You can try your hand at cross country skiing as well. During Presidents Weekend in February you can participate in the Annual Snowsfest that encompasses 3 days of festivities. Including, snow sculptures, parade, fireworks, games, sports, snowmobile safari, poker run, activities for all ages and lots of food. During February and March there are 3 weekends of snowmobile races each year. This is a great spectator sport if you aren't ready for high speed riding.
